Four Things You Need For A Winter Mountain Biking Trip

Posted on: 15 December 2015

When you plan to go on a mountain biking trip, you need to be sure that you take the time to properly pack for the season. There are some people who assume they can only go mountain biking during the warmer times of the year, but that is not the case at all. The following guide provides you with a checklist for things to bring with you on your next winter mountain biking trip.

Rent Studded Bike Tires

Mountain bike tires are designed to grip dirt and rocky terrain with ease, but they are not designed to grip slippery, snowy ground. Studded bike tires are made with studs in the treads to provide added grip when you are cycling in slippery terrain. If you do not plan to ride during the winter on a regular basis, you may want to consider renting the bikes instead of buying them at a bike rental shop.

Rent a Thermal Suit

While you are at the bike rental shop, consider renting a thermal suit to wear during your trip. If you plan to bike in an area where the temperatures get very low, having a thermal suit is important because it will help regulate your body temperature, wick away moisture, and keep you comfortable during your ride. The suit is designed to fit snugly against your skin so that it doesn't bunch while you are riding and cause blisters to develop.

Wear a Balaclava

A balaclava is a type of hat that fits over your head, while covering your face and neck at the same time. The only thing exposed to the elements are your eyes and a small portion of skin around your eyes. It will be very thin so that it can fit comfortably under your helmet.

Wear Polarized Goggles

When you are riding in snow, it is important to wear goggles that are polarized to protect your eyes. The goggles block snow or dirt from being kicked up from the ground into your eye. Also, when sunlight hits the snow, it can blind you as you ride. The polarized goggles protect your eyes from the glare that can be created by the snow.

When you rent these items from a rental company, you need to be sure to try on anything that you wear before leaving the store. You want to be sure that they fit comfortably and will provide you with the protection they are intended to provide.

Enjoying Exciting Sports

When you want an exciting workout, you might turn to sports. However, making shots can only stay exciting for so long. After awhile, you might wish that you had something a little more exciting to do--something that would get your adrenaline levels up a little. If you have ever felt this way, you should check out extreme sports. I still remember the day that I first started. I went dirt biking with a friend, and it was the most fun I have had in years. My blog is all about helping other people to develop a love for extreme sports, so that you can keep your routine interesting.
